Description
Chitari art: This hard to neglect and a very intrusive art form originated in the very heart of Goa, a very popular and beautiful state in the Western India.
Chitari is almost a 300 year old art form, dating back to the craftsmen of the Vijayanagar Empire. It’s unique in not only its trademark handiwork, but also its bright yellow and red hues and simple designs that breathe freely. Chitari artefacts are durable. The artisans only use jackfruit or mango wood that has today replaced the yadu wood, which has become harder to obtain, due to environmental laws. The craftsmen leave the wood out in the sun to get rid of all its moisture.
Here we have the Wooden Paat or a low stool which is traditionally used in Goan households for a lower seating while performing pujas or to have a traditional meal. We have used it in a more contemporary way wherein one could use these Paats as a table top tray to style your idols, planters, or even as a serving platter. Additionally, they can also be used as a gorgeous wall hanging frame, i mean why not right?
